Controlled Burn Turns Into Field Fire On Oak Grove Road

Shoal Creek Firefighters responded Sunday, just after 3:00 p.m., to a report of a field fire on Oak Grove Road, near Jaketown Road. Shoal Creek fire personnel told WGEL the fire was a controlled burn that had gotten out of control. The report was called in by a neighbor. The only damage sustained was to weeds and timber and no one was injured. Five firefighters battled the field fire for about an hour and a half.

Fire officials are reminding residents that the current cool, dry, and sometimes windy conditions make any kind of a controlled burn dangerous. They recommend against any type of burning, including the burning of leaves, at least until our area receives some rain to add some moisture to the ground and vegetation.
