Pocahontas Man Appointed To Bond County Housing Authority Board

In their meeting Tuesday, the Bond County Board appointed Dean Englert, of Pocahontas, to an unexpired term on the Bond County Housing Authority Board ending July 1, 2018.

Two people had approached the board with interest in filing the position, Englert and Lora Kennedy of Smithboro. Each briefly spoke with the board about their qualifications.

Wes Pourchot made a motion to appoint Kennedy, but the motion died for lack of a second. Frank Lucco moved to appoint Englert and the motion passed 4 to 1 with Pourchot voting no. The board noted that it was unusual to have two good candidates for such a position and encouraged Kennedy to apply again if another slot opens up.

The board unanimously approved April Crew-Kelly, tourism director for the City of Greenville, to fill one of two seats representing Bond County on the Illinois South Tourism Bureau.

The board also voted to recommend to the Bond County Public Building Commission that the county spend $3,400 with Slatton Excavating to replace drains under a portion of the courthouse grounds. The existing drains are clogged and causing issues in the courthouse and around the square. Slatton recently conducted improvements to the sidewalks around the courthouse.
