Section Of Route 50 Named For Clinton County Soldier

A section of new Route 50 in Clinton County was recently named in honor of Staff Sergeant Joshua Melton, a 26-year old soldier from Clinton County, who was killed in the line of duty in June of 2009.

Illinois State Representative Charlie Meier of Okawville and Senator Kyle McCarter sponsored legislation to name the section of highway for Melton. Representative Meier told to WGEL the stretch of New Route 50 named for Melton runs from Breese to Carlyle. Meier said Melton spent a lot of time in that area.

He said he hopes the naming will remind people to be thankful for those who put their lives on the line for us.
