Unit 2 Teachers Walk In Informational Picket

Approximately 125 teachers, former teachers and staff members in Bond County Community Unit 2 walked an informational picket line Thursday evening as a contract negotiations session was held at the central office on North Hena Street.

The session with the school board and teacher negotiating teams was attended by a federal mediator.

Ernie Oakley, Greenville Education Association co-vice president and chief negotiator for the teachers, told WGEL he was very pleased with the turnout. The group walked around the central office building many times, each of the participants holding signs such as “I Care,” “Don’t Deny Our Step,” “Support BCCU 2 Teachers,” “Put Students, Teachers First,” and “Education Is Priceless.”

The walking began at 5:30 p.m. and the negotiation session was at 6 p.m.

Certified teachers and support staff in the district have been working without a contract.
