Shimkus Visits Highland; Talks Highway Bill, Pipeline

Congressman John Shimkus

Illinois Congressman John Shimkus was at Michael’s Restaurant in Highland Monday night talking to constituents about recent developments in Washington.

He talked with WGEL about the new highway bill and the federal budget.

Shimkus told us the just-passed long-term highway bill is the first step to reaching an agreement with the Senate. He said the interstate highway system is incredibly important as it brings goods, services, growth, and jobs.

We also asked the Congressman about President Obama’s recent decision on the Keystone pipeline from Canada.

He said the president should not have had the authority to make the decision. He also said people don’t realize how many pipelines we have running under our soil.
