Shooting On Mayer Road In Marine: Resident Reports Shooting Intruder

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from the occupant of a home in the 12,000 block of Mayer Road in Marine at about half past midnight Friday morning. The caller reported that he had just shot an intruder who was breaking into his home.

Madison County Sherriff’s Deputies and Illinois State Police Troopers responded and located a man lying in the grass at the rear of the home. The man was conscious and had what appeared to be a single gunshot wound to his chest. He was transported to an area hospital where he was admitted and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The occupant of the home told deputies that he woke up to someone attempting to force entry to a rear door of his home. The occupant told deputies he armed himself with a firearm and warned the man to leave the property. The intruder reportedly ignored the warning and busted out the glass door in an attempt to enter the home. In response, the home owner said he fired one shot at the intruder and called 911.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
