Bond County Community Unit 2 teachers have ratified a new contract for certified staff members in the district.
Scott Spencer, Greenville Education Association president, said that Tuesday the GEA bargaining team presented a tentative agreement and recommended the teachers accept it. Voting was conducted by secret ballot and Spencer reported a majority of the teachers present voted to accept the proposal.
No details of the contract have been released. It still has to be approved by the full school board. The plan is for a special board meeting to be held Monday night.
Last week, the board and union negotiation teams met with a federal mediator, and after a five-hour session, emerged with a tentative agreement.
