Vandalia Firefighters were called Sunday, at 10:30 a.m., to a structure fire on West St. Louis Avenue. According to Fire Chief Keith Meadows, the fire was an unattached garage. The cause of the fire was determined to be a trash fire only about ten feet from the building. Wind apparently caused the fire to spread to the garage. The building and most contents were a total loss with damage estimated at approximately $25,000. A garden tractor and 4-wheeler were salvaged. No injuries were reported and firefighters were on the scene about an hour and fifteen minutes.
