City Council Approves Boat Horsepower Ordinance For Governor Bond Lake

Governor Bond Lake

The Greenville City Council has approved an ordinance to increase the maximum and inboard/outboard engine horsepower limit, used on Governor Bond Lake, to 300.

City Manager Dave Willey told WGEL the reason for the change is that boat manufacturers have changed their configuration on motors. He said the horsepower goes up but the boats don’t go any faster. He said it makes it difficult to buy a boat if you can’t buy the smallest V8 engine.

The horsepower change is effective immediately. Willey said the speed limit on the lake remains 45 miles per hour.
