Illinois State Police Remind Motorists To Obey The Move Over Law

Illinois State Police remind motorists to respect the Move Over Law which requires drivers to change lanes, if safe to do so, or reduce speed and proceed with caution when approaching stationary authorized emergency vehicles displaying flashing warning lights. The law also applies to any other emergency equipment on interstates and roads including highway maintenance vehicles displaying flashing lights. Illinois State Police will aggressively enforce the law to protect first responders and highway workers. Violators may be fined from $100.00 – $10,000.00 and lose their driver’s license for up to two years.
