Local Sports Community Shares Memories Of WGEL Sports Director Kent Kesner

WGEL Radio lost one of its longest serving and most memorable family members this week with the unexpected passing of Sports Director Kent Kesner.

Many people have shared memories of Kent, who broadcast Greenville Comets and Lady Comets and Mulberry Grove Aces games for over 30 years.

On Wednesday, WGEL’s Jeff Leidel spoke with several representatives of our local sports community.

Comets head football Coach Todd Hutchinson shared the following memories of Kent:

Todd Cantrill, head basketball coach for the Greenville Comets also remembered Kent fondly:

Joe Alstat is the Athletic Director at Greenville High School and worked closely with Kent over the past several years. He visited with Jeff and shared memories of Kent:

Former Comets football coach Mike O’Boyle worked with Kent in broadcasting football games on WGEL for a few years. Mike provided color commentary alongside Kent’s play-by-play. He spoke with Jeff about Kent:

We think the best way to say goodbye to a man that loved Comets sports is with one of the most memorable calls in Comet history: “The Miracle at Mt. Carmel” in 2013, as the Comet football team came back from being down by 3 touchdowns to win the elite 8 game. The Comets scored a touchdown to pull within one, then this happened:
