Man Hurt In McInturff Cemetery As Storm Rolls Through

A man working in McInturff Cemetery, southeast of Mulberry Grove, was injured when a storm arrived Wednesday morning.

The original call to authorities was that a tree had fallen on the man, but Fayette County Sheriff Chris Smith said that was not the case. The man was preparing for a funeral and was setting up a tent when the strong wind caused the tent to tumble.

Sheriff Smith said the man was knocked down and his head struck a tombstone, causing a cut to his head.

The man was taken by ambulance to Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia for treatment.

Mulberry Grove Fire Protection District first responders were called at 9:35 a.m., but the call was cancelled before they arrived at the cemetery.
