Approximately 10,000 Ameren Illinois customers were without power for much of the night Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. The outage affected an area including Centralia, Lebanon, and Belleville. According to an Ameren Illinois spokesperson, Clinton County was the area hardest hit by the outage.
The outage was first reported at 9:00 p.m. Tuesday. Power was restored to half of the affected customers by 1:30 a.m. Wednesday and the remaining customers had power by 4:00 a.m.
The outage was caused by equipment failure.
The Ameren rep told us some electric co-op customers were also impacted by the outage.
