Greenville Knights Of Columbus Donate To Area Backpack Food Programs

L to R: Joe Whalen, Greenville Knights of Columbus Deputy Grand Knight; Randy Whitehead, representing Mulberry Grove district for the Backpack Program; Carissa Bohannon, representing Greenville district for Backpack Program; John McAteer, local program organizer; and Dave Tabor, Greenville Knights of Columbus Grand Knight.

The Greenville Knights of Columbus recently made donations to the Greenville Elementary and Mulberry Grove Elementary Backpack programs.

The program, designed to provide food and nutrition for schoolchildren over the weekend, has been very successful this past year. Each weekend, volunteers at the schools send backpacks home with children to provide food for the weekend. The backpacks are then returned to the school.

The local Knights organization matched funds they received from IGA after collecting and redeeming over 3,500 special codes from IGA grocery products.

The Knights of Columbus also recently made semi-annual contributions to the Bond County Food Pantry and the Bond County Pregnancy Support Center. Additionally, proceeds from the annual Tootsie Roll drive have been distributed to FAYCO to provide programs for that organization.

The Greenville Knights of Columbus meet on the first Thursday of each month and the organization is open to Catholic men over the age of 18.
