Approximately one pound of methamphetamine headed from Mexico to northern Illinois was intercepted by authorities on Interstate 55 near Litchfield Monday evening.
An unidentified motorist was allegedly in possession of the drug when their car was stopped for traffic violations by a District 18 Illinois State Police sergeant. Based on signs of criminal activity, the trooper called in a canine unit, which found the drugs and drug paraphernalia.
The drugs are worth nearly $5,000 on the street according to state police.
The case remains under investigation and charges are pending.
