Academic Foundation To Host First Annual Gala March 19

The Bond County Unit 2 Academic Foundation is preparing to launch a new fundraising event.

Their first annual Light the Way Gala is scheduled for Saturday, March 19 at Copper Dock Winery near Pocahontas. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:00. Following the meal, a live auction will be held, featuring items such as Cardinals box seats; tickets to events at the Effingham Performance Center and the Muny in St. Louis; autographed sports memorabilia; the use of several vacation homes; a family shooting range membership; golf packages; a homemade pie baked for you every month for a year; and much more. Numerous additional auction items can be found on the Facebook event page for the Light the Way Gala.

Silent auctions will also be held during the event.

Auction items are still being added. To contribute an item to the auction, contact Valerie Klenke at 618-367-5637.

Money raised through the Light the Way Gala will be used by the Bond County Unit 2 Academic Foundation to fund teacher grants for classroom projects in Greenville, Pocahontas, and Sorento Schools.

Teachers are invited to apply for Academic Foundation grants each school year, requesting money for projects and equipment purchases the Unit 2 School District is unable to fund through their budget. A committee reviews all applications and selects a number of projects to fund in the fall. In 2015, the Academic Foundation awarded 24 grants to Unit 2 teachers, totaling over $12,000.

The first annual Light the Way Gala is sponsored in part by Bradford National Bank, Frank and Susan Watson, and First National Bank.

Tickets to the event are $40, or $60 per couple. They can be purchased at Bradford National Bank, Watson’s Health Mart Drug Store, First National Bank, and the Unit 2 District Office. Saturday, March 5 is the last day to purchase tickets.
