Greenville Fire Protection District Releases Year-End Statistics, Recognizes Firefighters For Years Of Service

Last year, Greenville District firefighters responded to 231 calls including 9 structure fires, 5 vehicle fires, 8 grass and brush fires, and 3 rescue calls. There were 62 calls for alarm system activations, 18 carbon monoxide detector calls, 13 spills or leaks, 13 false alarms, 12 assists to ambulance personnel, and 11 alarm system malfunction calls.

The department provided mutual aid assistance 19 times and received assistance from other area departments 18 times.

At a recent awards program, Retired Fire Chief Bill Johnston was presented a special plaque in appreciation of his 22 years as chief, Butch Koehne was honored for 20 years of service with the department, Glen Marti for 30 years, and Carl Sutton for 40 years.

Those completing 10 years with the fire department were Robby Wise, Bobby Stief, Nick Blackburn and Michael Germann.

Finishing one year of service were Jacob Tibbetts and Kyle Latempt.

Introduced as junior firemen for over a year were P.J. Qualls, Larry Edwards and Cody Finley.
