Bond County Soil & Water Conservation District Feeling Impact Of State Budget Situation

The 71st annual meeting of the Bond County Soil and Water Conservation District was held recently.

During the meeting, Emily Hartmann, district coordinator, reported the district continues to provide services despite the lack of state funds. She said last year the district was supposed to receive $52,000 from the state and despite a signed grant agreement, they received just over $30,000. Additionally, they have not received any funds for this year.

Hartmann said farmers can assist the district by participating in its equipment rental and soil sampling programs.

She reported she is now assisting the Clinton County Soil and Water Conservation District two days a month since the Clinton County office has just one full-time employee.

During the annual meeting, Karen File, Denny Kirkham and Wes Pourchot were re-elected as district directors for two-year terms.
