The Illinois House Transportation Committee recently unanimously passed a proposal to suspend late fees for license plate renewal stickers.
The state is not mailing reminders to save money during the budget deadlock. Drivers paid more than $2.7 million in fines from January 1 – February 22, 2016, about 1.2 million dollars more than the state collected in fines for the same two months in 2015.
The bill would suspend the fines until there is a budget and the state resumes mailing reminders.
The full House will now consider the bill.
