Preliminary Total Shows Over $16,000 Raised At First Academic Foundation Gala

Among the auction items Saturday were eight Cardinals ball caps. Each hat contained a number and the bidder holding that number won four dugout seats to a Cardinals game. Here, the eight winners lined up, sported their caps, and waited for the winning number. Larry Martin of Greenville won the tickets.

The Bond County Unit 2 Academic Foundation had a big night Saturday. The group held their first annual Light the Way gala, to raise funds for classroom projects throughout the Unit 2 school district.

The gala was a sold-out affair and included a large live and silent auction.

Preliminary totals, from the auction alone, exceeded $16,000.

There were over 60 items up for auction Saturday night and several tables worth of silent auction items.

Academic Foundation President Don Dillon said the community supported the effort beyond the expectations of organizers and the foundation was very pleased with the response.

The auction total doesn’t factor in expenses, event sponsorships, or table sales. Organizers say they will release a final total when they have one. The gala was held at Copper Dock Winery.
