The Bond County Senior Center is participating in the 14th Annual March For Meals event, designed to assist the local Meals On Wheels program.
Anna Oestreich, executive director of the senior center, said March For Meals is designed to highlight the importance of the Meals On Wheels program, attract volunteers, and raise funds. The Meals On Wheels Association of America offers matching grants. Oestreich said if the Bond County program can raise some funds and show that the community is excited about the program, they can request matching grants.
Oestreich also told us that three community champions – Patti Brooks, Becky Blackburn, and Bart Caldieraro – will be delivering meals for the remainder of March and working to raise awareness of the Meals On Wheels program in Bond County.

The center serves about 600 home-delivered meals a month to homebound older adults. The local program has experienced a limit on the number of meals that can be delivered weekly, and for the first time, there is a mandated waiting list.
