At Monday evening’s meeting of the Bond County Unit 2 finance Committee, Superintendent Wes Olson said about $412,500 needs to be reduced from next year’s budget. That will lead to reductions in staff, supplies and other expenditures.
Olson said reductions in certified staff must be done this month. He indicated that when the school board meets Monday night, it will consider a reduction of a half-time certified position.
In April, non-certified staff hirings will occur and the superintendent advised that reductions totaling two and one-half positions are being considered as recommendations.
It was reported that while state aid payments continue to be received on a timely basis, the state is still lagging behind on payments for categorical programs. Four of those payments were budgeted for this year, but only three have been received, one that was late for last fiscal year, and two for this school year.
Olson said it is hoped at least one more categorical program payment will be received before the current fiscal year ends June 30th.
