CMSgt. Edward W. Buckles, USAF (Ret.)

CMSgt. Edward W. Buckles, USAF (Ret.), age 80 of Trenton, born June 4, 1935 in Pawnee, a son of the late Joseph and Mary, nee Whalen, Buckles, died Sunday, April 24, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Al Kelly; a sister, JoAnn Deschamps; a brother, Bill Buckles; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Albert Deschamps, Jim and Louise Lard, George Lard, Neta Hodge, Barbara Lard-Dyar, and Skip Kaines.

Surviving is his wife Rosemary, nee Lard, Buckles of Trenton, whom he married November 13, 1954 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pawnee; his children, Ed (Brenda) Buckles of Mechanicsburg, Theresa “Buckie” Kelly, Tom (Marcy) Buckles, and Kathy (Steve) Spihlman all of Trenton; 6 grandchildren, Matthew (Lynn) Buckles, Ryan (Lindsay) Buckles, Evan and Colby Buckles, and Andrea and Joseph Spihlman; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren, 5 step-great-grandchildren, and 10 step-great-great-grandchildren; his siblings, Joseph Buckles and Judy Buckles both of Pawnee; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bob Lard of Freemont, WI, Minnie Kaines of McAllen, TX, Pete (Patty) Lard and Ruth Ann Lard all of Pekin.

Edward was the Senior Enlisted Advisor for the Airlift Communications Division and retired from the USAF with the rank of CMSgt. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Trenton, Trenton Knights of Columbus Council 2932 and the 4th Degree Bishop Althoff Assembly, Aviston American Legion Post 1239, Boys Scouts-Lewis and Clark Council Board Member, and the Oregon Military Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed camping, traveling, being involved with scouting, and spending time with his family.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Trenton with Fr. Gene Kreher and Fr. Joseph Rascher officiating. Interment with full military honors will take place in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 27, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday, April 28, 2016 from 8:00-9:30 a.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Trenton.

The Aviston American Legion will hold services Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. followed by the Trenton Knights of Columbus and the 4th Degree Bishop Althoff Assembly.

Memorials may be made to the Trenton Boys Scouts Troop 39 or to St. Mary’s Catholic Church and will be received at the funeral home.
