Firefighters Called To Out Of Control Burns

Mulberry Grove Firefighters responded Sunday, at 1:45 p.m., to a report of a fire on Pittsburg Avenue about one mile east of the county line. According to Fire Chief Dwight Volkmar, owners were burning a brush pile and the fire spread to a woods. About one to two acres of ground burned but there was no damage. Keyesport Firefighters provided mutual aid and firefighters were on the scene about an hour.

A strong wind Monday afternoon caused a trash fire to spread to a nearby timber area at property located at 22 Denzel Drive, north of Greenville.

Greenville Fire Protection District firemen were called at 1:05 p.m. They were on the scene approximately 25 minutes.

It was reported a man who attempted to extinguish the fire, before firemen arrived, refused medical treatment. Fire Captain Bobby Stief said the man became overheated, apparently due to the heat from the fire and the exertion from carrying buckets of water.

The fire caused no damage.
