Two people were injured in a head-on crash late Monday morning on Route 40, approximately one mile east of Overpass Road, southwest of Greenville.
According to the Bond County Sheriff’s Department, Levi Strother, age 21, of Greenville, was driving a car westbound, and Peggy Sohn, age 63, of Smithboro, was driving a pickup truck, eastbound on Route 40.
A deputy told WGEL another car was passing a tractor on Route 40, and Strother drove to the side of the highway to avoid the car.
The deputy said Strother steered his car back onto the road and it allegedly crossed the center line, colliding head-on with Sohn’s truck.
Sohn and Strother were transported by Bond County Emergency Services ambulance to HSHS Holy Family Hospital in Greenville for treatment of injuries.
Greenville firemen provided assistance on the scene.
According to the deputy, Strother was issued citations for alleged failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and failure to wear a seatbelt.
