MG Unit 1 Receives Third State Payment

At the Mulberry Grove Board of Education meeting Monday, Superintendent Brad Turner reported the district received the third categorical state aid payment of about $81,000.00 for transportation and special education. Turner said the payment came in just after the April board meeting and he is optimistic about getting a fourth payment this year.

Several parents and students addressed the board with questions and concerns about the music program. They asked the board to search for another music teacher to replace this year’s instructor who resigned to take a full-time position.

Elementary Principal Bobby Koontz reported about 50 community people attended the child literacy forum last week. The program is part of a grant allowing elementary students to participate in a literacy academy during the summer.

Junior high graduation is Saturday, May 21, at 11:00 a.m. and high school graduation is Saturday, starting at 2:00 p.m.

The board approved a preliminary budget amendment.

Following a closed session, the board hired Jaclyn Hamel, speech and language pathologist; Lauren Beckman, high school math teacher; and Kevin Millikin, part-time mechanic and transportation director.
