Edith P. Casper Metzger, age 90 of Hookdale, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Carlyle Health Care.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Gary Stanford officiating. Interment will follow in Highland City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Donnell-Wiegand from 5 until 8 p.m. Monday. For those who desire memorials in Edith’s memory may be made to Bond County Hospice, the American Farm Heritage Museum, or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
Edith Pearl Casper, the daughter of Fred and Hilda Winet Casper, was born on January 9, 1926 on the Casper farm north of Highland. Edith attended the Highland Public Schools and worked for the Farmer’s and Merchants Bank in Highland before her marriage.
Edith and Calvin Metzger were united in marriage on September 21, 1943 in the Evangelical and Reformed Church in Highland and had enjoyed over 70 years together before his death on October 2, 2013. Edith is survived by their three children: Russell J. (Martha) Metzger of rural Hookdale, Beverly A. (Larry) Greenwood of rural Coffeen, Sherry B. (John) White of rural Carlyle, 6 grandchildren: Jay (Heather) Greenwood, John (Kim) Greenwood, Nathan (Sarah) Metzger, Alan (Jill) Metzger, Mark (Christina) White, Michael White, 11 great-grandchildren: Dalton, Enon, Austin, Micah, Shelby, Morgan, Drew, Reese, Trey. Ethan, and Elliott. Edith is also survived by her sister Shirley landolt of Alhambra.
Edith is preceded in death by her husband Calvin, her parents, her sister Clara Iberg, and brothers Kenneth Casper, Burnell Casper, Donald Casper, Laverne Casper, and Duane Casper.
Edith helped her husband Calvin as they farmed together and Edith raised cared for her family.
Edith was a member of the Utlaut Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
