Keyesport Firefighters responded today at 2:07 a.m., to a report of a home fire on Dove Lane in Keyesport. According to Fire Chief Jim Golder, it was a two-story home with a full basement and the residents were asleep when the fire started.
Golder said the owner told him their family pet dog woke them with barking and then he heard the smoke alarm go off after the dog woke them. Everyone including the dog got out safely but with only the clothes they grabbed on the way out.
Golder said he thought they did not even have shoes. The fire was through the roof when firefighters arrived and the home is a total loss valued at more than $100,000.00. The cause of the fire is unknown and the state fire marshal will investigate. Mulberry Grove, Greenville, and Wheatfield Firefighters provided mutual aid with tankers and manpower.
Mutual aid departments were on the scene about three and a half hours with Keyesport Firefighters remaining approximately six hours. There were no injuries.
