Smithboro Firefighters were called Wednesday, at 4:21 p.m., to a report of a fire at a home on Rt. 40. According to Fire Chief Dale Deverick, the home was about half way between Smithboro and Mulberry Grove. Deverick said the home owner had some cardboard boxes piled beside his home and the boxes caught fire. The home owner had the fire out before firefighters arrived but they checked to be sure the fire was complete extinguished. The cause of the fire is undetermined. There was damage to the siding on the house but no structural damage. No injuries were reported and firefighters were on the scene about twenty minutes.
