Leslie “Les” Joseph Clary, age 74 of Greenville, passed away 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2016 in Highland Healthcare, Highland, Illinois.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2016 in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri.
Family and friends are welcome to meet at the cemetery 12:45 p.m. Friday. The Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
Les, the son of Earle Ambroise Clary and Verena Bienvenue, was born December 12, 1941 in Port Arthur, Texas. He grew up there and attended the local schools. Les answered his country’s call by joining the United States Air Force on August 16, 1961 in Houston, Texas and served as Air Policeman serving overseas for 2 years and 1 days overseas. Les was honorably discharged on April 1, 1969 at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota being awarded the National Defense Service Award, serving a total of 7 years, 7 months and 16 days in the Air Force.
Les and Peggy K. Spurlock Hayden were united in marriage on August 9, 2001 in Greenville at the First United Methodist Church. Les is survived by his wife Peggy, his children, and Peggy’s children: Heather Clary of Texas, Michael Clary of Texas, Jaquline Clary of California, Marcella Clary of Texas, Cindy Jernigan and husband John of Pleasant Mound, IL, Jackie Jacobs and husband Alan of Collinsville, IL, Pamela Hayden of Minier, IL and Patti Hayden of Minier and a brother Glenn Clary of Texas. Les had a host of grandchildren including Jesse Jernigan who is currently serving as Army E-4 Specialist an M. P. at Fort Campbell, Ky, Leslie Jernigan, and Katie Jernigan.
