Pauline McCray, age 79 of Greenville, passed away at 8:40 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2016 at Helia Health Care in Greenville.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the Greenville First Baptist Church with Rev. David Bilyeu officiating. Interment will follow in Mt.Auburn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. For those who desire memorials in Pauline’s memory may be made to the First Baptist Church.
Vera Pauline Jernigan, the daughter of Ralph and Nona Bell Taylor Jernigan, was born on May 18, 1937 in Smithboro. Pauline grew up there and attended the Smithboro schools and graduated from Mulberry Grove High School in 1955. Pauline worked at the Wishing Well Cafe, the Model Glove Factory, and at the Grants Store in Florida.
Pauline and Donald E. McCray were united in marriage on May 26, 1956 at the Smithboro Baptist Church by Rev. Robert Mallicoat and have enjoyed over 60 years together. Don survives as do three of their four children: Carol (Donald) Kingston of Vandalia, Cathy (Scott) Sugg of Greenville, Janice (Kenny) Brown of North Ft. Myers, Florida, 6 grandchildren: Heather Kingston, Lindsay (Seth) Strotheide, Allie Sugg, Brooke (Jac) Chilovich, Cole Utlaut, Noah Sugg, 2 great-grandchildren: Addyson Mcallister, Raelee Stotheide, one step-grandson Benjamin Brown, and her last surviving brother Lloyd (Kay) Jernigan of Smithboro.
Pauline is preceded in death by her son Gregory Eugene McCray on May 8, 2013, her parents, sister Marie Hubbard, and three brothers: John Jernigan, Bill Jernigan, and Doug Jernigan.
Pauline is a member of the Greenville First Baptist Church.
