The Greenville Airport Authority has announced a new relationship with Air Evac Lifeteam medical transport service. A formal lease has now been signed between the Greenville Airport Authority and Air Evac to bring the service to this community.
Air Evac Lifeteam is the largest independently owned and operated membership-supported air medical service in the United States, conducting its operations through 128 mutually supporting air medical bases across 15 states. The Company operates a fleet of more than 140 medically-equipped Bell 206 Long Ranger helicopters, along with Bell 407 helicopters.
The new site, with access to 127, has been designated and approved by the GAA which will allow Air Evac to build a base facility on the airport grounds. This will include a hangar/maintenance shop for the aircraft and crew quarters to accommodate the staff. The base will employ 4 full-time flight nurses, 4 full-time paramedics, 4 full-time pilots, a mechanic, a program director and a membership sales representative. A crew – one pilot, one nurse and one paramedic – will be at the base 24/7. The helicopter that will be based at Greenville Airport will be a brand new Bell 206 Long Ranger fully equipped with latest avionics and autopilot.
Although Air Evac will be based at the airport, they will have a separate location clear from typical air traffic. This will allow them to expedite their departure when they are dispatched. In addition they will have a separate fueling facility in order to fuel without delay. Each phase of the operation has safety and efficiency at the forefront.
“The GAA is very pleased that Air Evac has picked the Greenville Airport to be their next base of operations. It is another way that the airport can help serve the community. I personally know how important it is to have instantaneous medical transport in a critical situation. We hope that the relationship between the Greenville Airport and Air Evac will help others when seconds matter” says Sherry Schaefer, GAA Vice-Chair.
The Greenville Airport Authority was formed in 1966 and is the governing body of the Greenville airport.
