Three suspects are in police custody following a pursuit in vehicles and on foot Thursday.
According to the Clinton County Sherriff’s Office, a sergeant with the department observed a suspicious vehicle Thursday, June 30 around 4:16 p.m. The sergeant attempted to stop the vehicle, which fled. Following a pursuit, the car crashed on State Route 161, about a mile east of New Baden. Two individuals were located at the scene of the crash; one was flown by ARCH Air Medical to a St. Louis area hospital, the other was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Belleville. The Clinton County Sheriff’s office, the Clin-Clair Fire Department, New Baden EMS, Sugar Creek EMS, Breese EMS, and ARCH Air Medical all responded to the accident scene.
A third suspect, the driver of the vehicle, fled from the scene on foot. A search was conducted by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of New Baden, Trenton, Albers, Aviston, Breese, and Germantown Police, Illinois State Police, and the Illinois Department of Conservation.
The individual was eventually located near the original crash site and was taken into custody without incident and remains in the Clinton County Jail.
