Many Ameren Customers Without Power Wednesday

Much of Greenville and numerous surrounding communities experienced power outages in the aftermath of Wednesday’s severe weather.

An Ameren Illinois spokesperson told WGEL that at the height of the storm, more than 100,000 customers had service interruptions. As of about 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, 1,627 customers had lost power in communities served by Ameren Illinois’ Hillsboro Operating Center, which includes Greenville. Over 1,100 of those outages were in Bond County.

Crews worked through the night and restored power to over 70,000. The remaining thirty-plus thousand outages were scattered throughout Ameren’s service territory with the bulk of them affecting a little more than 20,000 customers in Metro East areas including Belleville, Centralia, East St. Louis, Maryville, and Sparta.

Some Ameren customers in Bond, Clinton, and Madison Counties remained without power as of 10:30 Thursday evening.

Ameren Illinois customers can download the Ameren mobile app through their smart phone app store to see when power is restored to their home address should they need to leave home.

Ameren reminds customers to stay away from downed power lines and to report them by calling 1-800-755-5000 or call 911.
