An Illinois law requires that school districts issue directives regarding procedures to follow when an athlete suffers a concussion.
At its recent meeting, the Unit 2 school board appointed a concussion oversight team to oversee the Impact Concussion Program.
Members of the team are Sports Medicine Physician Dr. David Neighbors, certified athletic trainers Brandon Kircher and Stacy Turner, Unit 2 registered nurse Carisa Bohannon, Greenville High School Athletic Director Joe Alstat and Greenville Jr. High Principal Gary Brauns.
High school students are already being tested under the program. Unit 2 Superintendent Wes Olson said the district already had a plan in place at the high school level, which made meeting the requirements easier.
