Illinois State Police are reporting a fatality in St. Clair County Friday morning.
According to a preliminary investigation, a pedestrian was struck by several vehicles on Interstate 64 westbound at milepost 18.
Once troopers arrived at the scene around 2:30 a.m., they observed that the still-unidentified pedestrian was deceased. The first driver that struck the pedestrian stated the individual was lying flat on the roadway. The O’Fallon Police Department located a vehicle on the North Main Street Overpass, which is directly above where the pedestrian was lying in the roadway. The vehicle was running, and a suicide note was observed inside the vehicle. A step stool was observed next to the railing.
Traffic was restricted on I-64 for about four hours.
