Greenville Fire Chief Denny Wise

City of Greenville employee and Greenville Fire District Chief Dennis Wise was injured late Tuesday morning while working in a trench on a clay tile sanitary sewer pipe.

According to Greenville City Manager Dave Willey, Wise was using a cut-off saw when it hung up and the kicked back, with the blade cutting him on the chin and chest.

Wise’s collar bone was also broken.

He was taken by ambulance to HSHS Holy Family Hospital in Greenville, then transferred to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis where he has already undergone a couple of surgeries. Willey said Wise’s injuries were not life threatening, but very significant.

The incident occurred in an alley, east of Locust Street, between Vine and
Winter Avenues.
