Sofia Barbara “Oma” White, age 88 of Greenville, passed away 11:20 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2016 in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 4, 2016 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Greenville with Father Paul Kala officiating. Interment will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville.
Sofia Barbara, the daughter of Helene Wojvcik, was born April 4, 1928 in Wisoki, Poland. She was raised in Wisoki, attended the local schools and lived there till the age of 12. Sofia lived in France and then Germany. On December 21, 1961 Sofia and Orville Eugene White were united in marriage in Bad Kreuznach, Germany. Orville passed away January 20, 1967.
Sofia moved to the United States in 1962 to Colorado. She then moved to Sorento, Illinois for 3 years and in 1967 Greenville. Sofia worked at Reabon’s Restaurant for several years and then Utlaut Memorial Hospital until 1980. Sofia ran an at-home daycare service from 1980-2013. She loved to travel, take care of her great-grandchildren and was a faithful member of her church, St. Lawrence.
Sofia is survived by 2 daughters: Gabrielle Morris and husband Rich of Fairview Heights, IL and Pamala Miller and husband Mark of Greenville, IL. Grandchildren: Ashley Miller and Matt Obermark, Adam and Abbey White, Emily White, Andrew Summer and Patrick Summer, great-grandchildren: Cora Lee Miller, Amelia Jane Obermark, Addison White and Alysa White.
She was preceded in death by her mother, husband, son Aime White and a brother Zbignw Wojvcik.
