Two female joggers were struck by a car Sunday morning in Hillsboro and one died at the scene.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office 911 Communications Center got a call at 6:18 a.m. Sunday of a vehicle striking two pedestrians on Glenn Shoals Drive west of Lakewood Drive in Hillsboro.
According to the Hillsboro Police Department, Alan Logsdon, age 33, of Litchfield, was eastbound on Glenn Shoals Drive when he struck two female pedestrians jogging eastbound.
An investigator from the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office pronounced one of the joggers, Jena Hamm, age 31, of Hillsboro, dead at the scene. Hillsboro Area Ambulance took the second jogger, Heather Dalenberg-Reincke, age 38, also of Hillsboro, to Hillsboro Area Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Logsdon was not injured. He was taken into custody for alleged aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and taken to the Montgomery County Jail.
The road was closed for about four hours while the Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Team investigated. Hillsboro Auxiliary Police assisted with traffic control.
The Hillsboro Police Department, Illinois State Police, and Montgomery County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the accident.
