Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons and Sheriff John Lakin announced Monday afternoon that charges have been filed against 39 year old Christopher M. Derleth for the alleged aggravated kidnapping and child abduction of two minors from Madison County.
13 year old Katherine Elizabeth Derleth and two week old Christopher Ray Derleth were reported missing from Edwardsville on Sunday. It is believed the two are with Christopher M. Derleth, Katherine’s step-father, and the trio is potentially in or on their way to West Virginia, possibly traveling in a green 97 Mercury Villager Minivan with Illinois license plate, E, 8, 3, 3, 2, 1, 0.
In a press conference Monday, State’s Attorney Gibbons said nationwide extradition arrest warrants have been issued for Derleth. The alleged Aggravated Kidnapping charge is a Class X felony, punishable by up to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. The alleged Child Abduction charge is a Class 4 felony, punishable by up to three years in state prison. Bond for Derleth is set at $200,000.
Katherine Elizabeth Derleth is a 13 year old white female, who is 4 feet 8 inches, 95 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair with 3 birthmarks on her right knee. With her is her infant son, Christopher Ray Derleth, a 2 week old, white male, who is 21 inches long and 8 pounds, 3 ounces, with brown hair and dark eyes.
39 year old Christopher M. Derleth is a white male, 6 feet 1 inch, 160 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes.
