Clyde John Pruitt, age 90 of Greenville, passed away 9:38 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2016 at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra, Illinois.
Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2016 at Mt. Gilead Cumberland Presbyterian Church. A private interment will be held at Mt. Gilead Cemetery following visitation at the church. Memorials may be made to the church or Bond County Hospice.
Clyde John, the son of Charles and Josie Rasor Pruitt, was born September 15, 1926 in Salem, Missouri. Clyde grew up in Greenville and attended the country schools. Clyde served our country in the United States Navy. He enlisted on January 9, 1945 and served during WWII and was stationed at Okinawa. He was a proud Seabee and was honorably discharged on May 13, 1946. He came back to work on the farm and on January 24, 1948 was united in marriage to Geraldine Florence Scott. They have enjoyed 68 years together. Mr. Pruitt was Road Commissioner for LaGrange Township for many years. In retirement, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Clyde was a member of the Mt. Gilead Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Clyde is survived by his wife Geraldine and 2 children: Karen File and husband Berry of Pocahontas, Illinois and Gary Joe Pruitt of Greenville, Illinois. He was one of 10 children, one sister survives Edna Sievers of Highland, Illinois. He was the loving grandfather of Shani Golovay and husband Oleg of Redding California, Mindy Jefferson and husband Justin of Alhambra, Illinois, Angela Dieters and husband Daniel of Greenville and Scott Pruitt and Melissa of Parker, Colorado. Great-grandfather of 11: Elusha, Yoseph, Esaiah, Ada Ruth, twin boys Titus and Lukes, Ezra Lucille, Brendan, Chase, Brady and Ryder.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Jack, Herman, Robert, Clifford, Sadie Mettler, Martha Messinger, Ada Carter and Betty Schneck.
