HSHS St. Joseph’s – Breese Walk-A-Thon

Overcast skies and rain in the forecast didn’t deter participants in the annual walk-a-thon hosted by the Auxiliary at HSHS St. Joseph’s in Breese Saturday morning, Sept. 10. Before the walk, which benefited the Auxiliary’s Lights for Scholarship Fund, hospital HealthPlex Exercise Specialist Jeremy Richter (far right) led the group in a few stretching and warm-up exercises. Among those braving the weather were (from left) Carol Fischer, Betsy Kampwerth, hospital Director of Volunteers Judy Schrage, Gerri Stock, hospital Volunteer Services Secretary Yvonne Ratermann and Joanne Becker. Donations made before, during and after the morning event netted over $6,000 for the scholarship fund.

The walk benefitted the Auxiliary’s Lights for Scholarship Fund which provides annual grants to healthcare career students. This year, at the organization’s annual meeting in June, 14 students going into dental hygiene, healthcare administration, nursing, pharmacy and physical therapy each received a $1,000 grant-in-aid. The backpack was donated by Reeves Credit Repair of Breese and presented by hospital Director of Volunteers Judy Schrage (right).
