Humane Society Building

The new Bond County Humane Society building, off South Elm Street near Interstate 70 in Greenville, has been constructed.

Work is still needed inside the building, according to Dennis Hundsdorfer from the society.

“This is phase one of this new building,” he said. “We’re not going to be able to finish the inside at all but we’re going to get the exterior up and the flooring poured. It’ll look like it’s done but it’s really going to be empty. We’re going to go back and try to get additional grants to finish it and donations from people that care about what we do and hopefully they’ll step up and give us a hand.”

The new building is attached to the one at that location which has been used to keep dogs. Once completed, the new facility will provide space for up to 60 cats, and will have a meeting room, office and other rooms to take care of the animals.

In its 14 years of existence, the humane society has re-homed nearly 2,000 animals.

The society’s biggest fundraiser of the year, Paws In The Park, is scheduled for Saturday, September 17 at Patriot’s Park, west of Greenville.
