Low Cost Cash Labs At BCHD

In their meeting this week, the Bond County Board of Health approved a low cost cash labs program at the Bond County Health Department.

Administrator Mark Ayers explained that the department would work with HSHS Holy Family Hospital in offering the low cost lab services, which would be valuable to the uninsured or those with high copays. Doctor’s orders will be required. More specific information will be announced in the near future.

The board also increased the cost for a flu shot from $30 to $32 for this year. The high dose flu vaccine remains $54. The health department has the flu shot in stock and they are provided on a walk-in basis. The department now accepts some insurance for the shots; you may call 664-1442 to see if your provider is accepted.

Ayers also reported there have been no cases of either West Nile or Zika Virus in Bond County. He said the department plans to use grant funds to purchase additional larvicide which will be used by townships and municipalities as well as school districts for their mosquito abatement efforts.
