For over 15 years, WGEL has used its airwaves for the Great Celebrity Pie Auction to benefit cancer patients.
In the past few years, the money raised has gone to the local Lemuel Rhodes Cancer Foundation.
The pie auction was held this week with $12,191 raised. Wednesday was the biggest day, dollar-wise, with $5,955 raised.
Bart Caldieraro is chairman of the Rhodes Cancer Foundation board. He said the pie auction is extremely important in the financial picture of the foundation.

Those seeking assistance from the foundation must complete an application. Caldieraro said the foundation’s mission is to provide financial aid to Bond County cancer patients.
He said those who apply receive $500 automatically and additional assistance is approved in $2,000 increments and there is no limit.

Caldieraro said there are many ways to contact the Foundation and/or to apply for assistance. You may call Caldieraro at Watson’s Health Mart Drug Store at 664-3600 or the Bond County Health Department at 664-1442. Applications are available at numerous locations including HSHS Holy Family Hospital land local doctors’ offices. Those applications can be turned in to Watson’s or the Health Department.
