As previously reported on WGEL, the Bond County Unit 2 School District notified parents Friday night of a staff email account that had been compromised by a “phishing” scheme. This resulted in fraudulent emails being sent from the firstname.lastname@example.org email account.
Unit 2 officials have provided additional information, noting that the district’s network and student data was not compromised in any way at any time.
District technology staff worked with Google to ensure all proper measures were taken and the breach was fully contained. The email, email@example.com, was secured and is now safe for use. Future emails from that address are safe to open.
