Mulberry Grove Board Of Education Passes Budget

At the Monday Mulberry Grove Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Brad Turner presented the 2016-2017 budget at a public hearing starting at 6:45 p.m. There was little change from the preliminary budget passed in August. The state still owes about $86,000.00 for transportation and special education from last year. Turner said all ending fund balances June 30, 2017 are expected to be positive except for the transportation fund. Revenues this year should be about $20,000.00 more than last year while expenses are estimated to be about $4,000.00 – $5,000.00 more than last year.

In the treasurer’s report during the regular meeting, Turner reported the district has not received any county tax money yet and fund balances are getting low. The district did not borrow any money as tax money is expected soon. General state aid is coming in on time but no categorical state aid has been received for transportation and special education.

Following a closed session, the board hired Romona Mollett substitute food service person. They approved volunteers to attend the FFA national convention October 18-21, in Indianapolis and approved increases for officials’ pay for junior high and high school baseball and softball.
