Avenger At Airport

A star attraction at the recent Greenville Airport Airstravaganza was the appearance of a World War II TBM Avenger plane.

Brad Deckert, from the LaSalle-Peru area, is owner of the large aircraft.

It served in Marine Torpedo Bombing Squadron 234 during the Okinawa Campaign in 1945.

Deckert flew the plane to Greenville for the event.

He told WGEL he enjoys providing people a piece of history. He said the new mission of the plane is education. Several schools have used it at the start of their World War II studies.
