Bond County is one of the Metro East Illinois counties in the St. Louis Backstoppers group. The organization provides financial assistance to the spouses and dependent children of all police officers, firefighters and publicly-funded paramedics and EMTs who have lost their lives or suffered catastrophic injury while performing their duty.
Bond County Sheriff Jeff Brown praised the Backstoppers organization. He said Bond County was accepted into the group about 20 years ago.

Sheriff Brown said public assistance is needed to fund Backstoppers. The Bond County Law Enforcement Association recently held a golf tournament and raised nearly $10,000 to support the organization.
