Keyesport Firefighters and First Responders were paged Thursday, at 1:33 p.m., to a report of a camper explosion at the Hickory Shore Resort on Emerald Road southwest of Keyesport.

According to Fire Chief Jim Golder, the cause of the explosion was probably a propane gas leak. There was one person in the camper at the time of the explosion and he was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese and later flown to the burn unit of St. John’s Mercy Hospital in Chesterfield, Missouri.

Golder said the camper is a total loss as is a truck which was parked nearby. Another nearby camper was damaged.

The State Fire Marshal was expected to investigate the cause of the explosion.

Greenville and Wheatfield Firefighters responded with mutual aid. Firefighters were on the scene about an hour and a half.
